1. Introduction
Carified exists to make buying and selling used vehicles safer and more transparent for everyone in Australia. This Seller Agreement describes what we expect from you when you use the Platform as a seller — and what buyers can expect from you too.
By accepting this agreement (which occurs when you submit your first listing), you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by everything set out below, as well as our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
2. Identity Verification
Sellers may complete identity verification to receive a verified badge on their profile and listings. Verification requires submitting a valid Australian government-issued photo ID (e.g. driver's licence or passport) and a selfie, which our team reviews directly.
If you complete verification, your verified identity is permanently associated with all listings you publish while that status is active. Attempting to circumvent or falsify verification — including by using another person's identity — will result in immediate account termination and may be referred to law enforcement.
Businesses that choose to verify must do so using the identity of an authorised representative. The verified individual is personally accountable for listings published under the business account.
3. Listing Requirements
Every listing must include:
- Accurate vehicle details: Make, model, year, variant, odometer reading, and VIN must be correct. Odometer readings must be taken at or near the time of listing.
- Photos: A minimum of 8 photos showing the exterior (all four sides), interior, engine bay, and odometer. Photos must be current — not stock images or photos taken from a previous listing.
- Asking price: Must reflect a genuine sale price. “Price on application” is not permitted.
- PPSR certificate: A current Personal Property Securities Register search result confirming the vehicle is free of financial encumbrances, or disclosing any encumbrances that apply.
- Service history: Upload any available service records or formally acknowledge that no documented service history exists.
4. Mandatory Disclosure
Transparent disclosure is what sets Carified apart. You must complete the disclosure checklist for every listing. This is not optional.
Defects
You must disclose all known defects that materially affect the vehicle's safety, roadworthiness, or value. This includes but is not limited to: mechanical faults, structural damage, body damage (including paint defects), electrical issues, and failed roadworthy items.
If you are not aware of any defects, you must formally acknowledge this in the listing. “Sold as-is” descriptions do not substitute for the disclosure checklist.
Modifications
All modifications from factory specification must be declared — including engine, suspension, braking, wheels, exhaust, electrical, and cosmetic modifications. You must indicate whether each modification is engineer-certified where applicable.
Previous use
You must disclose if the vehicle has been used as a taxi, rideshare vehicle, emergency vehicle, hire car, or driver training vehicle at any point in its history to the best of your knowledge.
Misleading or incomplete disclosure may constitute a breach of the Australian Consumer Law and could expose you to civil liability. Carified does not accept responsibility for loss arising from a seller's failure to disclose.
5. Prohibited Listings
You must not list:
- Vehicles you do not own or do not have legal authority to sell.
- Stolen vehicles or vehicles with a cloned or altered VIN.
- Vehicles subject to an undisclosed financial encumbrance.
- Vehicles that are currently written off and recorded as such on the written-off vehicle register.
- Non-vehicle items (parts, accessories, trailers) — these are outside our current scope.
- Vehicles on behalf of an unlicensed dealer if you are acting as an agent in a commercial capacity that requires a dealer licence.
6. Fees
Current listing and subscription fees are published on our pricing page. Fees may change from time to time; you will be notified of changes before they take effect.
All fees are quoted in Australian dollars and are inclusive of GST where applicable. Payments are processed securely through our payment provider. We do not store your full card details.
Listing fees are non-refundable once a listing has been published, except where required by Australian Consumer Law.
7. Seller Conduct
As a seller, you agree to:
- Respond to genuine buyer enquiries in a timely and honest manner.
- Make the vehicle available for a pre-purchase inspection if requested by a serious buyer.
- Remove your listing promptly once the vehicle is sold or is no longer available.
- Not engage in price manipulation, shill bidding, or other deceptive practices.
- Not direct buyers to other platforms to avoid Platform fees.
- Treat all prospective buyers with respect and without discrimination.
8. Completing a Sale
Carified facilitates introductions between buyers and sellers but is not a party to the sale transaction. Once a buyer and seller agree to a sale, it is your responsibility as the seller to:
- Provide the buyer with a completed transfer of registration form and any documents required by the relevant state or territory road authority.
- Provide a receipt or contract of sale that accurately reflects the agreed price and vehicle details.
- Arrange a safe payment method. We strongly recommend bank transfer (EFT) or bank cheque. We advise against accepting cash for vehicles over $5,000.
- If the vehicle requires a roadworthy or safety certificate in your state or territory, ensure this is in place or clearly agreed upon in writing.
9. Representations & Warranties
By publishing a listing you represent and warrant that:
- You are the legal owner of the vehicle or are duly authorised to sell it.
- All information in the listing is accurate and not misleading.
- You have disclosed all known defects and modifications as required by this agreement.
- The vehicle is not stolen and has no altered or cloned VIN.
- The PPSR report you have attached is genuine and current.
- You are complying with all applicable laws, including the Australian Consumer Law and any state or territory laws governing the sale of motor vehicles.
10. Enforcement
If we determine, in our sole discretion, that you have violated this agreement, we may take any of the following actions:
- Issue a formal warning.
- Remove or suspend one or more listings.
- Temporarily or permanently suspend your account.
- Report the conduct to relevant authorities (police, ACCC, state fair trading agencies).
We are not obligated to provide a warning before taking action where we determine there is an immediate risk to users or the integrity of the Platform.
